Congratulations to three of our young people who are taking part in the Raleigh International Expedition this summer.
The Raleigh International Expeditions are challenging programmes that empower diverse groups of Young People to contribute to sustainable development projects.
Raleigh International is a charity; all the money they raise covers the costs of the expeditions. They are dedicated to bringing communities together, often for the first time, giving them the resources and motivation to achieve a sustainable development.
Raleigh runs 4 to 10 week expeditions to Borneo, India, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
Raleigh International volunteers work in communities and environments where our support is needed and will inspire long-term positive change.
The types of projects vary from country to county, previous examples have been:
- Community project – living and working alongside local communities on a project, like rain water harvesting in India
- Environmental project – helping to protect and preserve the country’s wildlife and natural habitats, like building an eco-lodge in Borneo
- Adventure project - a test of team work and perseverance by trekking the width of Costa Rica from the Caribbean to the Pacific Coast
By the Bridge has been working with Raleigh for over 5 years. They provide fantastic opportunities for Young People in foster care to be challenged and helped to develop skills that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
The three young people have been allocated a fully funded place but as a commitment, and to raise awareness of the charity, have been challenged to fundraise a small contribution towards their expedition.
The three young people have to raise their fundraising target by mid-May.
