By the Bridge celebrates World Book Day 2021

05.03.2021

On Thursday 4 March 2021 By the Bridge hosted their very own World Book Day Zoom party which saw over 25 young people aged 4-17 years old take part along with staff.

All young people involved dressed up as their favourite fictional characters and shared with everyone the reasons why they liked the books they had chosen.

Staff even got involved and dressed up characters from their favourite books whilst reading stories aloud to the group. Jo from our North West fostering region looked fantastic as Cat in the Hat whilst Lauren, one of our Education Advisors from the Midlands dressed up as the Witch on the Broom and read the story. She even came complete with fluffy toys for all of the animals on the broom with animal noises provided by her daughter!

Our Education Manager, Caroline Hallett, even got involved and dressed up as Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter and read a story about The Wizard and the Princess.

One of our nine year old children from the North West dressed as Willy Wonka and treated everyone to a story which he read out loud for the group called The Smartest Giant in Town. Three sisters from our Thames Valley branch also sang songs from their favourite musicals, including High School Musical and Wicked and the session ended with a Poem written by one of our young people from Kent.

Caroline said: "It was a really special event that made memories which will stay with us all forever and I'm so glad we were still able to celebrate, albeit virtually."

All the young people who took part have been sent a free book to help make sure their love of reading continues.

Prior to the event, our Education team also sent out 20 copies of 'All About Eid - Things to Make and Do' to Foster Parents and young people as part of our February book giveaway.
